Made. Valami elkészült. De ki készítette? Hol készítették? Miből készült? Ezeket az angol egy-egy rövid szóval fejezi ki.

In, of, from, by – mikor melyiket használd? A magyar sokat nem segít, inkább adok egy sor példát, amiből hamar megtanulod őket.

GRAMMAR

Made of / from / by / in

Hello there. In this video we’re going to look at the following phrases:

  • made in,
  • made of,
  • made from and
  • made by

Look at this T-shirt and check the label. It says: Made in China – which means the T-shirt was manufactured (made) in China. ‘In’ tells us the location of production.

A Mercedes is made in Germany,
and a Honda is made in Japan.

Now look at this electric piano. The board says, it is a Roland piano. It was made by Roland. ‘By’ tells us who made the thing.

This piano was made by Roland.

How about this bass guitar. On the head it says ‘Ibanez’.

This bass guitar was made by Ibanez;
and this lead guitar was made by Fender.

Check out this building. It’s made of paper! ‘Of’ tells us the material that you can see.

The Eiffel Tower is made of steel;
this trumpet is made of brass;
and the Statue of Liberty is made of steel and copper – a reddish-brownish metal.

How about this cake? Well, it’s tricky, because you can’t see the ingredients: you can’t see the flour, the eggs, the sugar, the milk, the baking soda etc. You can’t see them, because they’re mixed.

This cake is made from flour, eggs, sugar, milk, baking soda and fruits.

‘From’ tells us the ingredients that you can’t really see in the end product.

Glass is made from silicon diOXide (SiO2), sodium oxide (Na2O), soda ash, lime (CaO), and some additives.
Instant coffee is made from a little coffee, some additives, flavour and 25 other ingredients.
A banana sundae is made from some ice-cream, sliced banana, and co(u)conut for topping.

To conclude…

  • ‘In’ tells us the location of production.

  • ‘Of’ tells us the material that you can see.
