Check out this boy here. What do you think about him? I suppose he’s ill. That’s my personal view. I suppose he has a bad cold. Maybe, he went out in the rain without proper clothes on and became ill as a result.

‘I suppose…’ means ‘I think that…’

Good. Okay, now picture this: suppose you’re sitting on the beach in the sun. The weather is beautiful, and you close your eyes and enjoy every single moment. You pick up your cocktail and sip the cold drink with satisfaction. 

Suppose you hear a cry: ‘help!’ What will you do? I suppose you would take off your sunglasses and look around, right?

So, what does ‘suppose you’re sitting on the beach’ mean? It means ‘imagine that you’re sitting there’.

Cool. Lastly, Will is a mechanic. He runs his own business in town. He’s got regular clients. Clients that visit him frequently: oil check, battery check, tyre check etc. To make sure everything runs smoothly, he uses a diary.

Yesterday, however, everything got a bit chaotic. The new tyres and oil were supposed to arrive in the morning, but they arrived late in the evening, so he missed the film showing at the cinema.

To make matters worse, he was supposed to take his wife to a restaurant after the film. Blimey! What an unlucky day!

Now, Will is supposed to take his wife to the restaurant some time soon. So, what does it mean? It means he should take her there.
