Hi there. Irritable, irritated or nervous? How should you use them? Let’s find out, shall we?
How do you feel when you take an exam? You feel worried and uneasy. We can say, you feel nervous. By definition, nervous is restless or uneasy. Restless people can’t be happy. Uneasy people are worried because they don’t know what’s going to happen to them.
A mother who is waiting for her teenager daughter coming home late at night is nervous: she is worried and can’t be happy because she doesn’t know what’s going on.
Irritable people can easily be made angry. An irritable person may not be angry at the moment. Maybe this guy is irritable which means he can grow angry the next moment.
Being irritable is a personality trait. It’s a quality or a characteristic of your personality. Do you get angry easily? Then you’re irritable.
This man may be irritable. From a photograph, you cannot tell.
Even if you look at this photograph, you cannot tell. Maybe, he’s an irritable person; but it’s clear as day that at the moment he is really irritated — totally angry and mad.
All in all, when you feel nervous, you’re worried and uneasy because something bad may happen to you.
If you’re irritable, you can get angry very easily. It is a personality trait.
If you ARE angry, then you’re irritated.
