Staying in Spain 01 – La Manga

A Staying in Italy sorozat után íme a Staying in Spain sorozat első része. 2017 őszén nyakunka vettük Európát: kutyástul, családostul. A cél a mediterrán kultúra ízlelése, tapasztalása. Jelenleg Spanyolországban vagyunk tehát, azon belül is Murcia tartományban, La Mangán.

Ez a rövid videó bemutatja, ezt az érdekes képződményt, amelynek 2 tengerpartja is van ;) A videó alatt megtalálod a leiratot is. Javaslom, hogy a videóval kezdd, és a leiratot később nézd hozzá.

Look at this picture. What’s in my hand? Sand. There is sand in my hand. We are in Spain now. Our flat is in La Manga del Mar Menor. La Manga is a sandbar. The sand in La Manga is very fine.

Look at the map: this is La Manga. It’s a narrow, long sandbar. It’s about 21 kms long but how wide is it? Well, it’s between 100m and 1.2km wide.

There are technically 2 “seashores” here. One seashore is on the east side of the sand bar. It looks over the open Mediterranean. It’s always windy, and the water is a bit colder. The other seashore is on the western coast. It looks over the Mar Menor lagoon. The Mar Menor lagoon. It is calm and quiet and a bit warmer.

By the way, “Mar” means sea in Spanish. “Mar Menor” means minor sea or small sea. Yes, the Spansih call the water in the lagoon ‘small sea’. The name of the place ‘La Manga del Mar Menor” means ‘the sleeve of the minor sea (or small sea)’. And yes, they call the Mediterranean ‘Mar Mayor’ which means ‘large sea’.

La Manga is a scenic holiday area, a beautiful sandbar that tourists love and so do we.
