Word Pairs: Office and Study
Hiya. What’s the difference between an office and a study? Let’s find out, shall we?
An office is a room, set of rooms or a building where people usually work, sitting at desks. This is an office with people sitting at desks and working on computers.
So, when you “go to the office”, it means you “go to work”.
‘A study’ is a room in your home where you read and write. Basically, you can do any work in your study that you can do in an office too, except you don’t leave your home.
I’ve got my own study here. I’ve got a big monitor and a fast laptop for video editing, a printer, a scanner – and they’re all on my desk; also, here is all my video stuff e.g. a video camera, lights, a background, stands etc. Because I work from home, I never have to go to an office; instead, I come down to my study and work here.
Great. Let’s wrap it up.
A study is a room in your home where you can do all sorts of office work: reading, writing, telephoning, emailing, printing and scanning etc. I also record and edit my videos, write my blog posts, and give online lessons here.
