Angol intonáció 02: Angol kérdések kérdőszavakkal – Question Words

Question words: Mikor érkeztél? Hogy mondtad? Mikor érkeztél? Angol kérdések kérdőszavakkal.

Nézd meg az első és és a harmadik kérdést: másképp intonáljuk őket a magyarban, igaz? Az első kérdés célja az információ megszerzése, míg a második esetében a már ismert információ megerősítése.

Nos, az intonáció ezt pontosan kommunikálja: a szavak ugyanazok, csakis a dallam képes azt a plusz hozzátenni, amivel tiszta  képet kapunk arról, hogy a kérdező mit szeretne. Azonban van itt egy angol nyelvtanulói kihívás:

Az angol nyelv intonációja nem olyan, mint a magyar nyelv intonációja.

Intonation: Question words – questions

Hiya. In this video, we’re going to check how to intonate question-word questions.

First off, a question with a question word is generally used to find out new information, right? For example:

What’s your name?
Where’re you from?
How was your holiday?
Why would you do that?
What time is it?

As you can see, the intonation falls at the end of these questions. Now, please repeat after me. Pause the video after each sentence:

How’re you today?
When will you come on Monday?
What’s it all about?
What’ve you done up till now?
What time is it?

Great. Now let’s see how such questions work in a different situation.

Say, you’re travelling with your friends or your family. Of course, you know everything you need for the trip. At least, that’s how you feel. But then you realise that you’ve forgotten some of the details.

So, you will ask the question a bit differently:

Sorry, I just forgot… When does the plane leave?
So, what time do we have to check in?
And, when will we land?

Note that the rising tone communicates that the information is not new for you. You just want to make sure that you’re not missing anything. The same thing applies when you ask for repetition:

What’s your name? The falling tone shows that it is new information for me.
What’s your name again? Here the rising tone shows you just want to make sure.

How was your holiday? … Sorry, how was it? I think, you get it. Now, please repeat after me:

What’s your name again?
How was it?
When does the plane leave?
What did you say?
When will we land?

Great. Just remember: more often than not, a question with a question word has falling intonation: you want to find out some new information. However, sometimes you already know the information; you just want to make sure or ask for repetition. In that case, we apply a rising intonation, as shown above.

Az angol kiejtés elsőre nehéz lehet, ám nem lehetetlen. Tpasztalatból fakadó meggyőződésem, hogy az akcentus gyengíthető, ha megfelelő módon találkozol a nyelvvel.

A legfontosabb az, hogy eleget (sokat) halld a jó angolt. Az angolos angolt. Ez az audio élmény táplálja a beszédet, így a kiejtést is. A magyaros angol oka ez: a tanuló negyon keveset vagy egyáltalán nem hallott angolt.

Aki könyvekből tanul, az a saját maga által elképzelt angolt hallja, ebből fog dolozni, amikor megszólal. Aki magyarul magyarázó tanárral tanul, szintén ebben a cipőben jár. Ezeken a tanulókon nem egy fonetika tananyag segíthet, hanem sok-sok angol hallgatása.

És a mi fonetika anyagaink? Nos ezek az anyagok a hab a tortán :) Élvezd őket, fedezd fel az angol nyelv hangjait, de mindenek előtt sokat hallgasd az angolt. Tananyagaink ebben is nagyon erősek.
