I wish … Hogyan fejezd ki vágyaidat?

When you see a falling star, what do you do? Well, a lot of people make a wish.They say: “I would like to be successful.” Or, “I would like to get a new home.” etc. They make wishes.

Now, wishes are not real things. They’re dreams.

So, these people will say, “I wish I were successful.” I wish I were. This means that I would like to be successful and maybe I will be, but this is quite unsure. It is indefinite: not a sure thing. “I wish I were successful.”

Or, another person that wishes for love may say, “I wish I found love.” Again, finding love is a wish; a dream. So, s/he says, “I wish I found love.”

Or, a person that wishes for a new home says, “I wish I had a new home.” Will he have a new home? Well, it’s a wish so it’s not a sure thing. It’s uncertain.

Look az 723. That’s me in the picture at the bottom. Christmas is coming, and I’m feeling lonely. No family, no friends; just me and my sister in a rented flat around our university.

It would be nice if our parents were here now. They’re not here, but it would be nice if they were here now. I wish.

Look at 726. The man in the picture at bottom is an applicant; you know, he wants to get a job at the company. He looks to be a good worker, but unfortunately, he is not highly qualified. You know, his schools are not so good.

He is not highly qualified: he’s got no college or university degree.

So, he is a good worker with high work ethic, and it would be so nice if he were better (or higher) qualified.  Unfortunately, he isn’t. But it’s my wish:

I wish this applicant were better qualified. I wish this applicant were better qualified.

Look at 727. I’ve got no money: my wallet is empty. But, I’ve got dreams. I’d like to have a bigger, nicer house; a newer car; some more modern studio equipment.

It would be nice if we had a bit more money. Too bad, it’s just a dream. But I wish.

Look at 728. My grandfather is in hospital. He’s very ill. I love my grandad.

It would be nice if he were well. He’s not at all well, but I wish he were.

I wish grandad were well. It would be nice. Is he fine? No. But I wish so. I wish grandad were well.

Look at 733. Look at this house. Isn’t it beautiful? Absolutely! But look at the garden. Wait… what garden? There’s no garden here!

And that’s exactly my problem. It would be nice if this house had a garden!

Okay, there is a small yard here where children can “play”, but I can’t grow vegetables or plant fruit trees here. That’s so unfortunate.

I wish this house had a garden. That would be a nice touch. I wish this house had a garden.

Look at 734. Look at the lady sitting at her desk. What’s she doing? She’s daydreaming.

“Ahhh, it would be so nice if it were a holiday. I would definitely go down to the beach with the family.”

“I wish it were a holiday.” Well, it’s just a nice wish. In reality, she has to stay and work in the office on this beautiful, sunny summer day. I wish it were a holiday
